The ‘Roads (going home)’ series suggest a feeling of isolation whilst also suggesting comfort in the promise of ‘going home’. The half-light of dusk is emphasised in many of these paintings, where the locations remain anonymous. However, at the same time they lean towards the over-familiar as we regularly experience the fleeting landscape from this perspective, as part of the routine of everyday life. These paintings, therefore, tap into a shared common experience, suggesting personal memories and emotions as we journey though our immediate surroundings.
